The Faculty of Education at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will host a Distinguished Lecture titled “How Can Comparative Education Give Hope in Difficult Geo-Political Times?” on July 7 (Monday). The lecture will be delivered by Professor Ruth Hayhoe of the University of Toronto.
In this Distinguished Lecture sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, Professor Ruth Hayhoe will share her views on recent publications in comparative education and engage in a dialogue with professors from the HKU Faculty of Education. Together, they will explore how comparative education can foster hope and resilience amid complex geo-political challenges.

About the Speaker
Ruth Hayhoe, SBS, is a professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto. Her Asian engagements have included First Secretary for Education, Science and Culture in the Canadian Embassy in Beijing (1989-1991), Visiting Professor at Nagoya University (1996) and Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Education (1997-2002), now The Education University of Hong Kong, where she holds the title of President Emerita. In 2002 she was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the title of Commandeur dans l’ordre des Palmes Académiques by the Government of France. She holds honorary doctorates from the Hong Kong Institute of Education (2002), the Open University of Hong Kong (2015) and Victoria University in Toronto (2019), with a 4th to be conferred by the University of St. Joseph in Macao on July 5, 2025.
