Land is Hong Kong's most valuable commodity, making effective land planning and development a major concern across various sectors. As one of Hong Kong’s four pillar industries, the surveying profession plays an indispensable role in land development. Over the next 20-30 years, Hong Kong and other Greater Bay Area cities will undergo large-scale urban and infrastructure developments, driving a strong demand for interdisciplinary talent to make planning and development processes faster, smarter, healthier, and more sustainable.
The Bachelor of Science in Surveying [BSc(Surv)], offered by the Department of Real Estate and Construction, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), has a long-standing reputation as the world’s first integrated surveying programme. Currently accredited by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveying (HKIS) for five disciplines – General Practice, Quantity Surveying, Building Surveying, Planning and Development, and Property & Facility Management, the programme will also receive accreditation for Land Surveying starting from the academic year 2025-26. This accreditation marks a significant milestone, positioning the BSc(Surv) programme as the world’s first and only surveying programme with full accreditation across six disciplines, establishing it as a global leader in integrated surveying education. This integrated programme offers comprehensive education which equips students with the skills to excel in the dynamic global real estate and construction markets.
