The High West Redevelopment Project of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) comprises four towers of student residences and staff quarters, providing a total of 938 student hostel places and 273 quarter units. Aggressive Construction Company Limited (ACCL) is the contractor of the development, and currently over 80% of the construction work has been completed. The project is originally expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
Upon careful consideration of the following factors, including the overall progress of the project; impact on site staff concerned and the society; and the supply of residential places for HKU students and staff, HKU has appointed "Chevalier-Great Spirit Joint Venture", comprising qualified contractors Chevalier Construction (Hong Kong) Limited (Chevalier) and Great Spirit Construction Company Limited (GSCL), to take over the remaining works of the construction phase, and continue to appoint current workers, sub-contractors and suppliers. It is anticipated that the completion of the project will be slightly postponed to the first half of 2026.
Chevalier will coordinate and manage the construction, overseeing construction progress, and ensuring stringent quality control. The company will also appoint site staff to conduct site inspections and supervision to ensure strict adherence to site safety management and quality standards. The HKU project team and consultants will continue to closely supervise the contractor to ensure full compliance with the relevant statutory standard.
